Baths - Cerulean [Anticon; 2010]

This intricate beat based, sample infused sound, created by LA's own Will Wiesenfeld is a true example of genius. His poppy melodies mixed between high pitched vocals, in some cases, and catchy rhythms took my mind captive within seconds. I could go into much more detail but the easiest way to describe this wonder is in comparison: Passion Pit meets Toro Y Moi meets Atlas Sound. In tracks like "You're My Excuse to Travel", Wiesenfeld yelps at the top of his lungs. "I love you enough to drive like an hour from where ever I am to be with you". This isn't a stupid track about love, but a track of longing for someone. I can't think of many times where I would actually drive an hour to be with someone, but Wiensenfeld is believable. For our listening pleasure, this is true for most of Cerulean. The emotion flowing through each song, one by one, is incredible. Its honesty, remarkable. The qualities found are ones rare to music. In other hits, such as "Aminals" and "Maximalist", Wiesenfeld is captured at his finest. Opening lines, ones that had me in awe from seconds on in, should literally be in the dictionary under the word catchy. This is music, about love, to be loved.
